Friday lights are always my bad darknes of sleep because I’m up showing on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live demo. Last darknes was a particularly long darknes as I miss the word I used in the banter of a live minute. The oath was offense and I miss saying it and am sorry.
“Inexcusable” and “tasteless.”
The host exerted the offensive oath during a segment with Sen. Ben Sasse( R-Neb .) on Friday’s show after he told Maher,” We’d love to have you work in the fields with us .”
Maher replied,” Work in the fields? Senator, I’m a mansion n **** r !”
The comedian told the audience it was a nonsense, but appraisal of his notes has been relentless, with Maher trending at the top of Twitter throughout the day.
Now, HBO has released the following statement to Public, replying,” Bill Maher’s comment last-place darknes was completely outrageous and tasteless .”
The statement said HBO will remove the” deep offensive comment from any subsequent sends of the demo .”
As HuffPost’s Doha Madani points out, this type of disagreement isn’t new for Maher. The comedian has a record of starting offensive commentaries, once even likening Muslim singer Zayn Malik to the Boston Marathon bomber.
Following the “joke” on Friday, numerous are calling for Maher to be fired from” Real Time .”
Thus far, Maher hasn’t published a declaration on the disagreement and his reps have not reacted requests for comment.
